Financial Aid & Scholarships

Financial Aid comes is several forms: Need-based grants, loans, work-study jobs, tuition reciprocity (reduced tuition at public colleges/universities in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Manitoba), and scholarships. To be eligible for financial aid, one must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Federal Student Aid website has a lot of great information on financial aid: https://studentaid.ed.gov as does the College Career Center.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

All students attending any type of post-secondary institution should complete a FAFSA, regardless of financial need. The form requires information about student and family's income and assets. The FAFSA suggests filling out the form on-line. You may now file the FAFSA as early as October 1st. Click here for more information on the recent changes to the FAFSA.

A great first step to applying is to create a FSA ID. A FSA ID gives you access to the Federal Student Aid's online systems and can serve as a legal signature. Click here to get started: https://fsaid.ed.gov

A PDF form of the FAFSA is also available to print and fill out manually or is screen-fillable. PDF FAFSAs must be mailed for processing.

The following financial records should be collected to make sure the application process goes as quickly and smoothly as possible:

  • Tax returns (if filed)
  • Social security number
  • W-2 Forms
  • Current bank statements
  • Records of untaxed income
  • Business and farm records
