October 18-22 National School Bus Safety Week

Transporting thousands of students to school each day requires cooperation by students, families and drivers. The third week of October is School Bus Safety Week. It’s a good time to remind students to think about school bus safety. Check out our Transportation Safety Policy. It includes some important tips students can follow to keep safe:

  • Wait for the bus in a visible location out of the roadway, in clothing that can be seen easily.
  • If you drop something getting on or off the bus, let the driver know and wait for their instruction before reaching down to pick it up.
  • Keep your attention on the road. It can be easy for younger kids to focus on playing, or older children to focus on electronic devices, and forget about road safety.
  • Be aware of weather conditions and dress appropriately.
  • Have a backup plan in case your student misses the bus. Do they know where to go, or how to contact you?
