Transporting thousands of students to school each day requires cooperation by students, families and drivers. The third week of October is School Bus Safety Week. It’s a good time to remind students to think about school bus safety. Check out our Transportation Safety Policy. It includes some important tips students can follow to keep safe:
- Wait for the bus in a visible location out of the roadway, in clothing that can be seen easily.
- If you drop something getting on or off the bus, let the driver know and wait for their instruction before reaching down to pick it up.
- Keep your attention on the road. It can be easy for younger kids to focus on playing, or older children to focus on electronic devices, and forget about road safety.
- Be aware of weather conditions and dress appropriately.
- Have a backup plan in case your student misses the bus. Do they know where to go, or how to contact you?
