New School Start Times for 2024-2025

The Princeton School Board has approved changes to school start and end times for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Based on recommendations from the Start Times Task Force, all schools will have their schedules shifted 15 minutes earlier next year. The two-tier busing system will remain for the 2024-2025 school year.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all the task force members—staff, parents and families, community members — and everyone who contributed their time and perspectives to this study. The task force members spent many hours considering feedback, research, and data to make student-focused and logistically feasible recommendations. Their study worked to resolve four concerns:

  • Current schedules result in too much disruption and inconsistent student access to qualified teachers at the end of the school day for middle and high school students due to after-school activity schedules.

  • Research on start times supports younger students starting earlier and older students starting later (current model).

  • The current two-tier system has had a positive impact by separating elementary and secondary students from a behavioral perspective.

  • Transportation logistics and driver shortages do not support returning to one-tier busing.
