National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)

To be eligible to play Division I or Division II Athletics, students need to fulfill the NCAA core course requirements listed below. In addition, students’ ACT /SAT test scores and core GPA are also a factor for eligibility. By registering with the NCAA (10th or 11th grade year), students can plan their academic career with these requirements in mind. Please see your Dean for further information.

The following are NCAA resources to be used as a reference guide to help students plan accordingly for future eligibility.

Below is a planning guide, provided by NCAA, for students interested in potentially playing sports at a Division I or II University.

Grade 9: Start Planning Now

  • Take the right courses and work hard to earn the best grades possible.
  • Ask your dean for a list of your high school’s NCAA -approved core courses to make sure you take the right classes.
  • Or, find your high school’s list of NCAA-approved courses at www.eligibilitycenter.org

Grade 10:

  • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
  • If you fall behind on courses, do not take short cuts to catch up. Ask your dean for help with finding approved courses or programs that you can take.

Grade 11:

  • Check with your dean to make sure you are graduating on time with the required number of NCAA courses.
  • Take the ACT or SAT and submit your scores to the NCAA using code 9999.
  • At the end of the year, ask your dean to send your official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Grade 12:

  • Finish your last NCAA core classes
  • Take the ACT or SAT again, if necessary, and submit your scores to NCAA.
  • Complete all academic and amateurism questions in your NCAA Eligibility Center account.
  • After graduation have the school submit your final official transcript with proof of graduation to the NCAA.
