Battle Of The Books!

Thank you for your support as we tried a new enrichment activity this year - Battle of the Books! The students really enjoyed the competition and the excitement was contagious. I think we will have more teams next year now that they've seen how it works. The best part was that there were kids in every grade level who said they would never have read some of the books if they weren't following the list!

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
