Family Update 10/15/21

October 15, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Much of this edition is dedicated to our Veterans Day program.

Intermediate School Recognizes Veterans on November 11, 2021.

This year, we’ll be honoring our Veterans in a different yet meaningful way.  This will be at 10 am on 11/11/21.   Since it is not yet wise to gather as a large group assembly like we used to do, we are planning a parade of cars in our bus parking lots shared with the Primary School.

We need your help to make this extra special. Here’s how you can help.

  1. If you are a Veteran or know of a Veteran who can join us, please invite them to come to our school at 9:30 on 11/11/21 for coffee and cookies before the parade.

  2. Girl and Cub/Boy Scouts wear your uniform and help with welcoming and delivering coffee and cookies to Veterans before the parade.   We’ll have a Coffee Cart on the sidewalk out near the parking lot.

  3. We have a bulletin board in school for Military Kids to honor their Veterans. Students can get the cards to fill out in their classrooms.  Turn in a small photo and card to your teacher to display during November.

  4. Help make signs and/or banners to celebrate our Veterans on 11/11/2.

And Wear Red, White and Blue patriotic colors to celebrate America and Veterans this day.

  1. You may come and honor Veterans with us, from 10-10:30 OUTSIDE in the back of our schools.  (this entire event is outside, not inside the school)

  2. IN case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.  Sprinkles or snowflakes are okay, but a deluge or blizzard would not be fun for anyone.

*** Special Instructions for Scouts - Check in with your leader and Ms. Nettifee at 9am the morning of 11/11/21 in uniform and we’ll give you your jobs to do.  You get to interview Veterans and be on TPN as well as hand out coffee and cookies to Veterans.***

Questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Ms. Nettifee, School Social Worker at lynn.nettifee.isd477.org or (763) 389-6814.

Get out and vote!  We are encouraging you to learn more about our upcoming referendum  and voting on or before November 2.  Use this link to find out more about voting options and what is included in our referendum - https://www.isd477.org/referendum/vote.

We have cameras at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Sand Dunes State Forest, and near the Middle School.  Here are some clips from September 2021 Part 3.  We have been sharing parts of these clips during our morning announcements.  To view any of the over 120 videos, checkout our playlist -  Wildlife Cameras YouTube playlist.

Together we are Tiger Strong!

Take care,

John Beach

Repeated - On October 25, there will be No School for Primary and Intermediate school students because of conferences.  Your child's classroom teacher will be reaching out soon to schedule a time for conferences.  We know that many of you already have a conference date and time set up.  Please note that many conferences will fall outside of the 10/25 conference day.  Conference sign up will be through Skyward and can be either in-person or virtual.  We look forward to conferences and meeting with all of our families.

Our Little Caesars fundraiser will continue until 10/25. Here is the link: https://fundraising.littlecaesars.com/login/join-fundraiser/57788b75-018b-467c-89b0-73dd83f82373 You will need to create an account and then you will be able to share with family and friends to place orders for pizza kits. We receive $6 for every kit sold. The kits will be shipped to your home or to the homes of friends or family who have ordered. The money raised will go toward the cost of field trips and student incentives. You are also welcome to send a check made out to Princeton Intermediate School instead of participating in the pizza fundraiser.

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
