Family Update 11/19/21

November 19, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

With the short week coming up we will not be having our formal social and emotional learning lessons this week.

I have heard that there have been some questions about how much time students have to eat their lunch.  We require students to stay at the lunch table at least 11 minutes.  In the past if we didn’t have a minimum amount of time, some students would rush through their lunch or not eat much at all.  Students can stay until they are done eating, but need to stay at least 11 minutes.

Tiger Pride - We have been a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS - https://www.pbis.org/) school since 2005.  A foundation of Tiger Pride is positive expectations.  At the Intermediate School we talk about Respecting myself, others, property, and community.  We teach students what those expectations look like in classrooms and all around the school.  We have developed a Tiger Pride Expectations Matrix so that we are consistent across the school.  We teach these expectations at the beginning of the school year and throughout the year as needed.

Keep an eye out for ordering instructions for Princeton Tigers apparel coming soon!

We have cameras at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Sand Dunes State Forest, and near the Middle School.  Here are some clips from October 2021 Part 4.  We have been sharing parts of these clips during our morning announcements.  To view any of the over 130 videos, checkout our playlist - Wildlife Cameras YouTube playlist.

Together we are Tiger Strong!

Take care,

John Beach

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
