Family Update 4/1/21

April 1, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It’s hard to believe it’s already April!  We are starting to look toward the end of the school year.  We’ll be taking the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) in May.  Our in person testing days will be May 4-6 for reading, May 11-13 for math, and May 18 for 5th grade science.  We also plan to have a variety of fun activities to end the year on a high note.

This next week as we continue our social and emotional learning, our 3rd graders will be talking about Managing Anger, our 4th graders will be working with Handling Put-Downs, and our 5th graders will be looking at Avoiding Assumptions.

We are sharing this link to our Family Survey again.  We would very much like to hear from you if you haven’t completed this survey.  Please use this link - Family Survey 2021 Intermediate School to provide your thoughts and insight as to how we are doing and what we can improve on.

We sent out a Casual Contact Notification Letter this week.  We had some questions about what that means.  This letter is to notify you that we had a positive case on site.  Casual contacts do not need to quarantine.  If you receive both Casual Contact and Close Contact letters, please follow the Close Contact instructions.  If you have more than one child with us and are not clear which child was a close contact, please contact us.

LEO CLUB WANTS YOUR OLD GLASSES!

Princeton High School LEOS are collecting glasses April 12-19. There will be donation boxes at each of the schools in the district, including Early Childhood and Student Services.  Glasses will go to the Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation.  We can accept frames WITH lenses for prescription eyeglasses, no-prescription sunglasses, and reading glasses.

The wildlife clip this week includes  https://youtu.be/vH9Ux190VbU some nice daytime raccoon captures, our first wood ducks of the season, and many of our usual guests.  We have been sharing parts of these clips during our morning announcements.  To view any of the over 100 videos, checkout our playlist -  Wildlife Cameras YouTube playlist.

REPEAT - Attention parents of 5th graders - it is time to make a decision regarding 6th grade music options.  Please use this link to choose band only, choir only, or both band and choir - 6th grade music options (for 5th grade).   Please complete the form by April 26th.

Just a reminder that there is no school for staff and students on April 2nd and April 5th.

We Belong, We are Tiger Strong!

Take care,

John

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
