Family Update 4/14/22

April 14, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We have no school tomorrow, April 15th and Monday, April 18th.  I hope you enjoy the extra time with family and friends over this short break.

Our MCA testing time is upon us.  Our students took the reading part of the test this week.  The Math part is April 26-28, and Science is May 3rd or 4th (5th grade only).  We encourage students to do their best, but do not want them to be stressed by the testing.  We will celebrate the growth we have seen this school year!

We are planning a celebration day on May 20th.  It will be kind of a cross between an activity day, field day, and carnival.  Each grade level will have about 80 minutes of time to join the celebration.

There is a Summer Tiger Skills group being put together.  It will be focused on critical thinking skills, positive leadership skills, communication skills, self-awareness skills, and empathy.  For more information and to register, please visit this link - Summer Tiger Skills.

We have cameras at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Sand Dunes State Forest, and near the Middle School.  Here are some clips from March 2022 Part 4.

We have been sharing parts of these clips during our morning announcements.  To view any of the over 130 videos, checkout our playlist - Wildlife Cameras YouTube playlist.

Together we are Tiger Strong!

Take care,

John Beach

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
