Family Update 4/22/22

 

April 22, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Next week we have our last formal Second Step social and emotional learning lesson. This lesson highlights the previous 21 lessons from the program.

We are moving to the math part of the MCA testing next week.  Students will test April 26-28.  The week after fifth graders will take the science MCA test as well.  We encourage students to do their best, but do not want them to be stressed by the testing.  We will celebrate the growth we have seen this school year!

Last week I mentioned that we would be having an end of the year celebration on May 20th.  We are able to plan a memorable event due in large part to our PTO.  They made a $2,000 donation so that we can end the year on a fantastic note with this celebration day!  Thanks so much to the Princeton PTO.

We are looking for volunteers to help with this year end celebration on May 20th.  You should have received information and times to volunteer.  We’d love to have you join us during this day.

Your child should have received an order form for Minnesota Twins tickets. The Intermediate School is having a group event on Sunday, June 12 at 1:10 pm against the Tampa Bay Rays and Sunday, June 26 at 1:10 against the Colorado Rockies. We have a limited number of tickets, the deadline to order tickets is Thursday, May 5. The tickets will be sent home with your child before the end of the school year.

There is a Summer Tiger Skills group being put together.  It will be focused on critical thinking skills, positive leadership skills, communication skills, self-awareness skills, and empathy.  For more information and to register, please visit this link - Summer Tiger Skills.

We have cameras at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Sand Dunes State Forest, and near the Middle School.  Here are some clips from March 2022 Part 5.

Family Update 3/22/24

Do you have a 5th grader this year?  Here is a link with more information regarding registering for the Middle School - 6th Grade Registration.

 As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Do you have a 5th grader this year?  It is time to register for 6th grade choir, band or band & choir.  Use this Google Form to complete music registration.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.

Last weekend 2 teams competed at the State Robotics competition.  Team CHOCOLATE with team members Luke Aaseby Brantley Cluka Garrett Guggenberger Kolton Rittenour and team MEGA BOTZ with team members Bently Thorp Henry Jenson Cal Kluver.  They both did amazing! Team Chocolate came home with the JUDGES award!  It is a HUGE award for the team to receive!  The criteria for the award is:

  • Team displays special attributes, exemplary effort, or perseverance at the event.

  • Team overcomes an obstacle or challenge and achieves a goal or special accomplishment.

  • Team interview demonstrates effective communication skills, teamwork, professionalism, and a student-centered ethos

Family Update 2/23/24

We have wrapped up our diaper drive. We collected 4,543 diapers and 3500 wipes.  Last Friday, Jolynn presented the diapers to the Princeton Pantry.  Thank you so much to all of you who were able to participate.
