Family Update 4/29/22

April 29, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are in the final weeks of the school year.  We are focused on having a strong and positive finish to the school year.

We have one more set of activities with our Tiger Pride is Worldwide theme.  The month of May will be talking about many different ways you can show respect.  Feel free to take a look at these materials that we have created to guide our conversations - Showing Tiger Pride Worldwide - May 2022.

Our 5th graders wrap up our MCA testing with the science test.  We appreciate your support helping your child be ready for testing.  We have our local assessments in May in reading and math.

Next week our 4th graders have the opportunity to visit the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge.  We have developed a partnership with the refuge and the Friends of Refuge over the years.  We haven’t been able to visit for quite some time.  We thank the Friends folks for off-setting some of the cost of transportation, which is a huge help.

The Parent Teacher Organization would like your help with getting the word out!  They are in need of board members and more people interested in being part of the PTO.  The next meeting is on Tuesday, May 3rd from 6:15 - 7:30 pm in the Primary School Media Center.

There is a Summer Tiger Skills group being put together.  It will be focused on critical thinking skills, positive leadership skills, communication skills, self-awareness skills, and empathy.  For more information and to register, please visit this link - Summer Tiger Skills.

We have cameras at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Sand Dunes State Forest, and near the Middle School.  Here are some clips from April 2022 Part 1.

We have been sharing parts of these clips during our morning announcements.  To view any of the over 130 videos, checkout our playlist - Wildlife Cameras YouTube playlist.

Together we are Tiger Strong!

Take care,

John Beach

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
