May 12, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Next week we continue our Second Step Lessons.  We are on Lesson 22.  All grades will be working with reviewing the Second Step skills.

Home Links for this week -

Grade 3 - None

Grade 4 - Home Link, Home Link Spanish

Grade 5 - Home Link, Home Link Spanish

The End of the Year Celebration is coming up on Friday, May 19th.  Students will have about 90 minutes to go through any and all of the 16 different stations that will be set up.  They include 2 inflatables, face painting, relay type events, sidewalk chalk, ring toss, and more.

One of the Celebration Day stations is shirt signing. We encourage students to WEAR a white/light colored t-shirt to get signed by their classmates.   Please be very clear with your child and your child’s teacher if you DO NOT want your child’s shirt signed in permanent marker.

Our Positive Days Challenge continues as we move through May.  We were just about to hit 900 days when this edition of the Update was written.  We are encouraging students to show their Tiger Pride and earn days for the school as we make our way through our last month of school.  Here are the items students are working toward:

900 – Mystery Prize - Students will be able to sit anywhere at lunch - This should be awarded very early next week.

1,000 – Mr. Beach Sleeps on the roof for a night - I will probably end up on the roof on about May 24th.

Make a Difference, Tutor Kids!

Princeton Intermediate is looking for two Math Tutors for the 2023-24 school year. You can take action in our community by giving your time and talent to help students succeed with math.

Tutors work with pairs of students during school hours throughout the school year to provide extra practice and skill-building. Whether you’re a recent grad, career changer, stay-at-home parent, or retiree, you can make a great tutor and help kids build essential skills. No experience? No problem. With training and on-site coaching, our tutors are prepared to help kids succeed.

Part-time and full-time positions are available beginning in August 2023, October 2023, and January 2024. Tutors receive a paycheck every two weeks plus up to an additional $4,800 for college tuition or loans. Tutors 55+ may give the education award to their child, grandchild, stepchild, or foster child. Free health individual health insurance is provided for tutors serving 35 hours per week and child care assistance is available based on family size and income.

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
