IS Family Update 4/23/21

April 23, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This next week as we continue our social and emotional learning, our 3rd grades will be talking about solving classroom problems, our 4th graders will be focusing on solving playground problems, and our 5th graders will be looking at seeking help.

In an effort to reduce large groups of students needing to be quarantined, we are asking that students who are sick or showing symptoms, stay home.  We understand that in some cases students have come to school with no symptoms and ended up testing positive - we can’t control that.  We are working hard to finish the school year in person and end on a positive note.  Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.  More Covid related information from the Tiger Times can be found here.

We are currently planning for our next school year and we are hoping to have as close to a normal start as possible.  We may not know any additional guidelines or restrictions until late in the summer.  We will keep you updated as information becomes available.

The wildlife clip this week includes another wide variety of creatures. https://youtu.be/EIBJBeup6CE.  We have some turkey strutting, raccoon wading, deer, ducks, and brief appearances from several other creatures.  We have been sharing parts of these clips during our morning announcements.  To view any of the over 100 videos, checkout our playlist -  Wildlife Cameras YouTube playlist.

LAST CALL - Attention parents of 5th graders - it is time to make a decision regarding 6th grade music options.  Please use this link to choose band only, choir only, or both band and choir - 6th grade music options (for 5th grade).   Please complete the form by April 26th.

We Belong, We are Tiger Strong!

Take care,

John

As a principal, I have the opportunity to work through conflicts between students on a daily basis.  Students at this age are learning how to deal with emotions and situations involving conflicts with others.  One of the biggest challenges for our students is responding positively when someone is not kind to you.  Many times a student will say something mean back or become physical with the other student.  We continue to encourage students to tell the other person to stop and report it if the behavior continues.  That way I can work with the other student for their poor choice rather than needing to speak with two students who made less than positive choices.

We are looking for volunteers for our Book Fair, which is April 30, May 1, May 2, May 3.  Use this form to sign up for a time to help - Intermediate Book Fair- volunteer sign-up.

Is it bullying?  We field many reports of situations that have been called bullying.  In most cases they don’t fit the definition of bullying.  While we still want to be aware of these situations and deal with them, we also want to give a clear definition of what bullying is.
