Course Catalog

1. Go to Princeton High School Home Page.
2. Click the Skyward under the Students menu. 
3. Enter in your login name and password. 
4. Go to left side and click Schedule  
5. Go to top right and click Request Courses for next year. 
6. Select your course and click the Add Course button or type the course number in Course Key/Desc: box and click Search. After the course is found, highlight the course and click the Add Course button. 
7. Enter in all your course requests. 
8. Click the Alternates. 
9. Enter in your Alternate course requests. 
10. If you would like to review your course selections, they will show up in Selected Courses
11. Click the red “X” on top right.

Students are required to register for 18 courses and 5 alternatives each year. Students should have no more than one class that doesn’t earn credit each trimester (i.e., study hall).

Credit recovery

These courses are designed for students who are behind in credit(s). Students will receive notification if Credit Recovery is recommended based on their progress during the prior trimesters. Summer school dates are typically from early June to late July. During the school year, dates are typically two times a week.

Credit changes (Audit)

Teacher approval required. This option is available to juniors and seniors only. Students wishing to audit (take a class for no credit) may do so any time during the first two weeks. A request to audit a class must be submitted to a counselor and approved by the teacher.

Every attempt will be made to schedule students into their first choices; however, not everyone will receive the classes they choose. Students must choose 5 alternate courses to be used in the event a schedule conflict occurs which cannot be resolved or if classes are full or not offered.

Classes are formed, schedules created, and staff hired and assigned on the basis of student registration. Once this process has been completed, schedule changes are discouraged, and in many cases, not possible. Changes can only be honored if it is educationally best for the student and there is room in the desired course. 

Examples of “acceptable”  schedule changes include:  

• Inappropriate course placement. 
• Course prerequisites have not been met. 
• Course has been taken and cannot be repeated for credit. 
• Acceptance to a special program, medical, or administrative  action. 

No classes may be added after the first two days of each trimester.  All schedule changes other than dropping a class beyond the first two  days of the trimester will require special permission from the building principal with the exception of a Princeton Online Academy course. 

Any senior who has not fully met the graduation requirements by the  end of the regular school year will not be eligible to participate in graduation exercises during the school year. (Students who are short credits at the end of grades nine, ten, and eleven are encouraged to make up the deficiency in night school or summer school the year following the failed course).

Teacher approval required. One (1) elective credit can be taken on a pass/fail basis. Students must earn the equivalent of a “C” grade to pass the class. Students wishing to take a class on a pass/fail grading basis or to obtain a credit for the class may do so anytime during the first two weeks, by submitting a request to a counselor.

If changes to a schedule are necessary, they must be made the first two days of the trimester. Students should consult with their counselor for a drop/add form, which requires parent, teacher and counselor signature.  Students may drop a course up to the 10th school day  of the trimester. If you withdraw from a class after the 10th day of the trimester, your transcript will reflect a grade of F. Students are allowed to only carry one non-credit bearing course a trimester. Should the student  fall below four classes, the class(es) being dropped will  reflect an “F” for the final grade.

Grading Scale 

Princeton High School uses a 5.000 grading scale. Grade  point average is calculated using all grades a student earns during high school. Students taking Advanced Placement (AP) and College in the Schools (CIS) courses will earn an additional weighted GPA on a 5.000 scale. Grades for PSEO are not weighted.

Grade Point Average

Grade Point Average (GPA) is based on a 4.0 scale. Points  awarded for regular courses are as follows: 

Unweighted

• A - 4 points
• B - 3 points
• C - 2 points 
• D - 1 point
• F - 0 points

Weighted

• A - 5 points
• B - 4 points 
• C - 3 points 
• D - 1 points 
• F - 0 points 

The school district offers weighted grades for courses  provided that are identified as more rigorous or academically challenging and are limited to the following:  

• All Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered by the  school district. 

• All College in the Schools (CIS) courses offered by the  school district. 

• The school district will update its website prior to the  beginning of each school year with a listing of the course for which a student may earn a weighted grade.
