FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK: Transitioning to Summer

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are in the home stretch, May is our last month of school.  This school year has gone by so quickly and it has been a unique year for sure.  Knowing that we are transitioning to summer, we still have a whole month of learning ahead!

I would like to take a moment and thank our families and community for your support and teamwork this past year.  I value that in any given year, we are one team to help support all of our students, this has been especially true this past school year.  Thank you.  Thank you for your hard work and dedication to student safety and student learning.  You were asked to go above and beyond in so many ways as we navigated through this pandemic.  My words cannot accurately represent how much appreciation I feel.  There have been moments of celebration and moments of hardship and we are doing it together.  This means the world to me.  I couldn’t ask for better families and community.

During this last month of school, we are continuing to learn each and every day while we start to plan for next school year.  Our school board approved two tiered bussing for the 2021-2022 school year.  Our tentative student day next year will be 7:45am-2:00pm.  More planning over the summer months will be done to help prepare for next fall!

The summer months are an important time for families and friends to make life-long memories with one another and “recharge batteries.”  We recognize and fully support this needed time!  We also recognize this year has been significantly different than past years from a student learning perspective.  At the Primary School, we will be providing  formal summer learning opportunities through Targeted Services for SOME of our students AND optional at-home learning activities for ALL students.  Our intent with the at-home learning activities is to act as a bridge between summer and next fall for families that are interested.  They are designed to not overwhelm families while giving focus on what we call the “essentials of the essentials” - the most important skills around math, reading, and social emotional learning.  More information will be shared before our last student day.

Something we can all do at any time that helps support student learning while spending time together is reading!   Reading books is a great way to continue to learn.  One of the most important things that will determine how well your child does in school is his or her ability to read.  And, as with any skill, to get better at it, needs practice.  The more kids read, the more confident they become with reading and the better they become.  Please consider making reading a part of your child’s summer routine.  There are many creative  and fun ways to incorporate reading.  This will help your child with the transition back to school next fall while giving your child a jump start.

Have a lovely summer enjoying time with your loved ones!  If you need to reach us over the summer months, feel free to contact us, we are here to help however we can. I will see each of you in the Fall 2021!

Sincerely,

Sarah A. Marxhausen
