May is here! It’s hard to believe the school year is already coming to an end—where did the time go?

We hope you’ve had the chance to see your child grow in their literacy journey this year. Thank you for all the ways you’ve supported them—reading together, having conversations, writing, and playing word and sound games. Those everyday moments truly make a difference!

Your child will be bringing home the final READ AND ROAR sheet for the year. Please enjoy reading 10 books together and return the sheet to school so your child can be recognized for their hard work at home. After it’s recorded, the sheet will be sent back so you can redeem it for a free personal pizza at Pizza Barn—a fun way to celebrate their effort!

Reading and talking about stories or informational books is one of the best ways to help your child build language, grow their knowledge, and become a stronger reader. Even just one story a day can make a big impact!

If you’re looking for more books, here are a few great options in our community:

  • The lending library outside the District Family Center

  • The lending library between Kwik Trip and the hospital

  • The lending library by the prairie garden between the Primary and Intermediate schools

  • Our local public library

At the end of the month, your child will bring home a Summer Reading Challenge sheet. Please keep it in a safe place so it can be returned in the fall for a prize. We’ve talked all year about the importance of reading every day, and that continues through the summer. Reading together helps prevent the “summer slide,” when students can lose some of the skills they worked so hard to build.

Remember—you are your child’s most important teacher, and your support makes all the difference!
